Seven individuals have been arrested for allegedly smuggling 117 kg of cannabis, price Rs 6 crore within the worldwide market, from Nepal, the Directorate of Income Intelligence (DRI) stated on Thursday.

The contraband was being taken to Tamil Nadu when it was seized in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh by DRI officers, the central company stated.

Appearing on a tip-off, a drive was launched on Tuesday and Wednesday throughout which two vehicles have been intercepted on a highway in Narsinghpur district from which 117 kg cannabis was seized,” a DRI launch stated.

Smugglers had hidden the contraband in specifically designed compartments within the two vehicles which have been registered in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, it stated.

The drug consignment was delivered to India from Nepal and was being taken to Tamil Nadu by way of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, the discharge stated.

The estimated worth of the seized drug was Rs 6 crore within the worldwide market, the DRI stated.

Seven individuals have been arrested by the DRI for smuggling and charged below the Narcotic Medication and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), the discharge stated.

An investigation was underway, it added.
